Born and bred in Indonesia, Cristopher Wibowo, widely known as Cris in the dance community in Asia,took his first dance lesson in year 1999 in Capoeira with Luciana Gomen de Keis from Brazil, Maestre Cicatriz from Sinha Bahia during his university days.
While Cris trained his Capoeira to become an Instructor, he expended his dancing skill by learning and training Afro Cuban Salsa in Guaguancho and Orisha with Rudolfo Salas from Cuba and LA Salsa with Michael Alexander from Indonesia starting year 2000. To complete his salsa styles, he picked up Salsa from Pablo Baez & Jennifer Silvas from Spain on Cabaret Salsa. Along the way, Cris took every opportunity he had to advance his Salsa dancing skills from world class Salsa Maestros such as Super Mario and Suzana Montero from United Kingdom; Eddy Torres, Cobbo Brothers, Anna Masacote and Bobby Dickerson
from USA. To satisfy his thirst and curiosity on dance knowledge, Cris enrolled himself to Latin & Ballroom Schools and trained under Andy & Chin-Lee for five Latin dances which are Cha-Cha-Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive and Danny & Kosherawati on five other standard ballroom dances which are Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot and Quickstep in year 2005. Very quickly, Cris joined theInternational Ballroom Dance Championships and adjudicated by Adjudicator Marcel De Rijk in year 2006 and International Dancesport World Championship Season 34 and adjudicate d by Adjudicator President of ADC Isao Nakagawa & President of Dancesport Council Robin Short. He won 5th place in International Ballroom Dance Championships.
Whilst Cris was exceling in all the dances he learned, he was invited to become an Instructor for Copoeira and Salsa. Cris's dance career started in year 2006 with Interlude Dance Academy and later with Step Dance Academy as a Professional Dancer, together and trained under Principle and Choreographer Vencyi Yefriadi from Indonesia and Anna Rose from Australia respectively in HipHop dance, Riverdance and Bollywood for Shows, MTV, Movies and Film in Indonesia. At peak, Cris was the Lead Dancer whom performed in MTV & life in TV at Jakarta MTV Movie Awards 2009 with Diva Singer Krisdayanti and Shanti.
Cris was introduced to Tango Argentino on a social setting, he was captivated by the fluidity and sophisticated yet simple movements through improvisation of lead and follow. He started to search for the one and only Instructors in Jakarta at that point in time with Raul y Lilia (Argentina & Japan) in Year 2005. From 2010 to 2012, Cris intensified his Tango Argnetino skills through joining various festivals and taking lessons from reputable Maestro around Asia such as Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, Australia, Japan and participated Master classes to advance himself.
Cris's knowledge and style of dance didn't stop there, in year 2009 he took up American Swing and Flamanco which allows him to dance in most of the 1940's dances on social setting together with Tango Argentino. With the talent of dance in him, its just a matter of time to be partnering with American Swing Instructor Jackie Gishbauigher to teach and perform the dance to the Jakarta dance community.
Javier Rodriguez y Andrea Misse (late) are the Maestro that turned Cris's dance world 360 degree. "Dance to the women as if she is a baby sleeping on your chest and your hand is a blanket", said late Andrea Misse. "The women's legs is an extension of the man's, walk like a giant", said Javier Rodriguez. These two teachings from Cris's Maestro has become motto of dance. Besides that, Cris found the freedom to dance in Tango, where no choreography is needed. Having said that it is the highest level to dance as flowy as the river and most appreciated by all Tango dancers in the world. himself.
In 2020 Cris trains 25 dancers from Europe and 30 dancers and Singers from malaysia, dancing in the film THE SINGAPORE GRIPS by Farah Abushwesha as producer, starring by Georgia Blizzard as Joan Blackett and Edwards Bart as Jim Ehrendorf, the movie located in Cacosa Seri Negara Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
